Outdoor Master Shark 2s Electric Paddleboard Pump Review and Test

Updated December 4th, 2024

The Outdoor Master Shark 2s is their latest electric inflatable paddleboard pump based on their Shark series. The Shark 2s takes the popular Shark 2 design and gives it a built in battery that can inflate up to 5 boards on a charge. It can inflate large touring SUPs up to 20 psi on battery power. They also gave it a new digital display and all new internals.

What we liked:

  • Outdoor Master Shark design and look with a built in internal battery
  • Ability to inflate large paddleboards to 20 psi on battery power
  • Can inflate 4 to 5 paddleboards on one charge
  • Detachable 12 volt cord means less mess

What we didn’t like:

  • The black background digital display is hard to read in bright sunlight

Specifications

  • Max Pressure – 20 PSI
  • Inflation Speed Test – 8 min 37 sec
  • Inflate Multiple Boards – 4 to 5 boards
  • Size – 11″ x 9″ x 5″
  • Weight – 4.3 lbs
  • Battery – Yes

Outdoor Master Shark 2s Features

The most notable change for the Shark 2s from the original Outdoor Master Shark 2 is the built in battery. It has an 8800 mah battery that can be recharged through a USB C port or a 12 volt outlet.

1 – Built In Battery Big Enough to Inflate 4 to 5 Boards

I put the Shark 2s to the test to see how many boards it would inflate and deflate in a row. I used a 10’6″ generic all around paddleboard that I inflated to 15 psi. I inflated it and then used the pump to deflate it down to empty.

I was able to inflate and deflate the board 5 times in a row without stopping. The pump was down to 1 bar of battery left. The pump was sagging and pulsing a bit on the 5th board. I did not try to inflate it a 6th time. Outdoor Master claims that it can inflate 4 boards in a row. We were able to go 1 more than that.

6 – 20 PSI Max Pressure

I hooked up the pump to my 12’6″ inflatable touring sup (Red Paddle Co Voyager 12’6″) which has a 20 psi max pressure. This is a large board. We have tried inflating it to 20 psi with several battery powered pumps in the past. Very few have been successful.

The Shark 2s inflated it to 20 psi under battery power with no problem at all. It took a few minutes longer than it did under 12 volt power but it got the job done. I didn’t hear any sagging or other signs that the pump was going to quit or overheat.

6 – Inflation Speed

I did a few timed tests to see how fast the Shark 2s is relative to other pumps. I inflated the 10’6″ all around board to 14 psi. The Shark 2s took 8 minutes and 37 seconds. This was 3 seconds faster than the Shark 2. It is about an average pump speed wise. The Shark 3 did this in under 5 minutes. The slowest pump we have tried took over 11 minutes.

I inflated the 12’6″ touring board to 20 psi and timed it. The Shark 2s took 13 minutes and 2 seconds. This was 1 second slower than the Shark 2. The Shark 3 did this in under 7.5 minutes. The slowest pump we have tried took over 14.5 minutes.

The Shark 2 is about an average speed pump. It’s not one of the fastest out there by any means. It’s far from the slowest too.

We did the timed tests again using the internal battery. The 10’6″ all around board took 8 minutes and 49 seconds. The 12’6″ touring board took 16 minutes and 38 seconds. It runs a bit slower under battery power.

If all out pumping speed and getting on the water as fast as possible is your goal check out the Outdoor Master Shark 3. It’s dual compressors make it one of the fastest pumps out there.

See the below table for a comparison of inflation times with all the pumps we have reviewed.

2 – Updated Digital Display

The Shark 2s has a new digital display from the Shark 2. It has a black background and colored lights for the battery bar and numbers. It is very easy to read in dark and low light conditions. It is very hard to read in bright sunlight.

I have noticed a trend toward this display type on several pumps we have tested in the last year. All of them are really hard to read in bright light. A plain old grey scale display like the Shark 2 had just works better.

2 – 3 Modes for Inflating Almost Anything

The pump has 3 inflation modes. SUP, Kite, and Mat.

  • SUP – normal dual stage mode that can go from 0.5 to 20 psi
  • Kite – another dual stage mode that is more or less a second pressure pre-set
  • Mat – Mat mode is a timed inflation mode that runs in stage 1 with the fan only.

The pump includes a new hose from what was included with the Shark 2 and Whale. It has 7 nozzles instead of 6. There is a nozzle that will inflate just about anything included.

2 – Shark 2s Size and Weight

The Shark 2s weighs in at 4.3 lbs. This is 0.7 lbs heavier than the weight of the Shark 2. The Shark 2s has a similar shape and sized shell to the Shark 2. Only the weight went up a bit. This is much lighter weight than the older Outdoor Master Whale battery powered pump which weighed in at 6.25 lbs.

Recommendation – Buy or No Buy?

I would recommend the Shark 2s to anyone who wants a battery powered electric paddleboard pump that can inflate several boards. The Shark 2s isn’t the fastest pump out there. It keeps the Shark 2’s compact size and doesn’t add much to the weight. It can inflate larger boards up to 20 psi on battery power. Overall it’s a win win.
