Outdoor Master Shark 3 Electric Paddleboard Pump Review and Test

Updated December 4th, 2024

The Outdoor Master Shark 3 is the latest electric inflatable paddle board pump from Outdoor Master. The Shark 3 is an all new design that is completely different from the Shark 2. It has two compressors in it instead of one, so it can now inflate paddleboards twice as fast. It has a built in 74 Watt battery that can inflate 2 to 3 boards on a charge without hooking it up to your car.

What we liked:

  • Dual compressors means it can inflate boards twice as fast as most other pumps
  • Internal battery has enough power to inflate at least 2 boards very fast
  • 3 pre-set modes for use with different types of inflatables

What we didn’t like:

  • It is on the heavy side. It weighs 6 pounds and three ounces.
  • The black display is really hard to read in bright light

Specifications

  • Max Pressure – 20 PSI
  • Inflation Speed Test – 4 min 56 sec
  • Inflate Multiple Boards – 2 to 3 boards
  • Size – 13″ x 6″ x 7″
  • Weight – 6.2 lbs
  • Battery – Yes

Outdoor Master Shark 3 Features

The Shark 3 has 2 compressors in it with 2 drive motors. This means it can inflate boards twice as fast as normal. You can hear the second compressor come on a couple of seconds after the first compressor when powered by the internal battery.

You only get 1 compressor and normal inflation speeds if you run the pump off a 12 volt power source such as your car. A standard 12 Volt outlet can’t supply the amperage needed to run the second compressor.

1 – Inflation Speed

We did some time tests to see how fast the Shark 3 really was. We used the internal battery for these tests so that we would get dual compressor fast inflation mode.

We started with our 10’6″ All Around board and inflated it to 14 psi. This took 4 minutes and 56 seconds to inflate. The fastest pump we have tested before this, took 7 minutes and 5 seconds. The Shark 3 shaved off over 2 minutes from that time.

Next we inflated a 12’6″ Touring SUP to 20 psi. It took 7 minutes and 24 seconds. The fastest pump we tested before the Shark 3 took 11 minutes and 50 seconds. This was a full 4 minutes and 26 seconds faster. The fastest gorilla strength person with a hand pump would struggle hard to beat that time.

See the below table for a comparison of inflation times with all the pumps we have reviewed.

Electric Pump 10’6 x 32.5″ x 6″ All Around Board 12’6″ x 30″ x 6″ Touring Board 12’6″ x 30″ x 6″ Touring Board

Note. When you run the Shark 3 off of a 12 volt source you only get 1 compressor so it inflates at normal to slow speed. It took 8 minutes and 30 seconds to inflate the all around board to 14 psi. It took 14 minutes and 25 seconds to inflate the 12’6″ touring board to 20 psi. These are okay but not great times.

2 – Built In Battery

The Shark 3 has a 74 Watt Hour battery built in that runs the 2 compressors. This is a hungry pump so it can only inflate 2 to 3 boards depending on the size of the board and inflation pressure. We were able to inflate and deflate 3 10’6″ boards to 15 psi with 1 battery bar remaining.

There is no power mode that lets you only run 1 compressor off the battery if you want to go slower but inflate more boards. if you want a battery pump that can inflate 4 to 5 boards on a single charge check out the Outdoor Master Shark 2S

3 – Updated Digital Display

Outdoor Master followed the latest trends and went with a black display with colored characters for the Shark 3. It looks great when you are inside or outside on a night bright day. In bright sunlight the display is very hard to read. This has been true of several pumps we have tried with this display style.

Anyone producing an electric paddleboard pump should stick with a grey and black display. They are a million times easier to read in bright sunny conditions like the type of day when you want to paddleboard or kayak.

4 – Recharging the Shark 3

The Shark 3 can recharge off of a USB-C cord. It takes 4 to 5 hours to recharge it from a dead battery. It can also be recharged using a 12 volt outlet.

5 – 3 Modes for Inflating Almost Anything

The pump has 3 inflation modes. SUP, Kite, and Mat.

  • SUP – normal dual stage mode that can go from 0.5 to 20 psi
  • Kite – another dual stage mode that is more or less a second pressure pre-set
  • Mat – Mat mode is a timed inflation mode that runs in stage 1 with the fan only.

The pump includes a new hose design from what we saw with the Shark 2 and Whale. It comes with 7 fittings so you can use it to inflate almost any inflatable.

6 – Shark 3 Size

The Shark 3 is a larger and heavier pump to fit 2 compressors inside of it. It weighs in a 6 lbs and 3 ounces. This is almost 2 lbs heavier than the Outdoor Master Shark 2s which still has an internal battery but only 1 compressor. If you want something lightweight to carry in your SUP bag this is probably not the pump for you.

Recommendation – Buy or No Buy?

If you want a fast pump that will inflate a big board to high pressures fast, buy the Outdoor Master Shark 3. This is a no-nonsense pump with dual compressors that inflates at twice the normal speed. The downsides are it’s over 6 lb weight and hard to read display. If you want to be paddling in 5 minutes instead of 12 minutes, this is the pump to get.
