Movcan V30Pro Max Review and Test

Movcan is a newer player in the ebike industry. The V30Pro MAX is their top model, with dual motors and dual 20 ah batteries giving it long range and good power. The V30 Pro is a mo-ped style ebike that is more meant for riding with throttle with the pedals as more of a backup. This bike targets people who want more range and power than a standard Class 1,2,3 ebike but don’t want to move up to a full size motorcycle.

8 – What is the V30Pro Max?

The V30 Pro Max is made to ride with throttle. The bike is fun and comfortable to ride motorcycle-style with throttle. It’s zippy with the dual motors. It’s a blast to zip around on dirt roads or around the neighborhood. The dual batteries give it long range even if you never pedal. The long straight seat lets you be comfortable sitting forward or back on it. They even include rear foot pegs if you want to carry a passenger.

It is capable of going over 35 mph on throttle only right out of the box.

Buy this bike if you want to zip around on an ebike that feels and rides like a mini-motorcycle.

8 – What isn’t the V30Pro Max

The V30 Pro Max is not a regular ebike. It is not comfortable to pedal for any length of time. The fixed seat is too low for pedaling for anyone that can comfortably step over the bike. The 7-speed pedal driveline will spin out above 15 mph. At any speed over 15 mph you’re just freewheeling the pedals to keep the motor going on pedal assist. Its dual motors mean that it does not comply with any Class 1, 2 or 3 ebike rules anywhere.

1 – Dual 1500 Watt Motors

The heart of the V30Pro MAX is its dual hub motors, each rated at 1500W peak power. They are similar sized to the 750 watt motors that most fat tire ebikes come with. Those typically have a peak power output of 1000-1500 watts and 750 watt continuous power. The hill climb test using only 1 motor confirmed that is the power level of these motors.

2 – Cruise control

This bike has a cruise control system so you don’t have to hold down the twist throttle during long rides. Twist throttles get tiring to hold so this is a great feature. If you hold the bike at the same speed for more than 6 seconds, cruise kicks in and you can let go of the throttle.

There is an indicator on the LCD display that shows when it activates so you don’t have to guess.

4 – Dual 48 volt 20 ah Batteries

The dual 48V 20Ah battery packs translate into long range. You can realistically achieve 50 to 60 miles on throttle only riding.

The batteries are removable for charging or can be charged on the bike. Movcan includes 2 chargers with the bike.

The upper battery is styled to look like a motorcycle fuel tank which helps give this ebike the motorcycle look along with the dual crown fork.

There is no UL label on the batteries or mention of them being UL Listed on the Movcan website. I wasn’t able to find Movcan on the UL website either. I’ve seen several places mention that the batteries are UL Listed but I can’t find any evidence of it myself.

5 – Front and Rear Suspension

The full suspension system significantly enhances ride comfort. The front fork and rear coil shock absorb typical urban bumps and mild off-road conditions with ease. While not suited for aggressive trail riding, this setup provides more than enough comfort for daily commutes and weekend trail cruising.

There is no pre-load or damping adjustment on either the front or rear suspension. It’s not adjustable for rider weight.

6 – 37 mph top speed using throttle

How fast will the V30Pro Max go? Does it really go 37 mph as advertised by Movcan? The answer is yes. Using dual motor mode and level 5, the bike will go over 37 mph on the display. We also measured speed with a GPS which read 35.9 mph. That is really fast for an ebike. Acceleration is strong up to 30 mph. Above that, acceleration drops off, and it takes some time to reach top speed.

The bike feels very smooth up to 30 mph. Above 33 mph it has some vibration.

Top speed tops out at 30 mph when riding in single motor mode. I saw 30.2 mph on the display and 27.8 mph on the GPS.

You spin out the pedals around 15 mph where you can’t pedal fast enough to keep up with the bike. Level 5 pedal assist is more or less the same as full throttle on level 5 with your legs freewheeling the pedals.

2 – Cadence sensor and 5 levels of pedal assist

The bike uses a cadence sensor for riding pedal assist. There really wouldn’t be much point to a torque sensor on this bike. You need about 1/2 to 3/4 pedal turn before the motor activates. The 5 pedal assist levels work at fixed throttle points. The throttle points apply to both pedal assist and throttle operation. Out of the box, the speed levels are set at:

  • PAS 1 – 10 mph
  • PAS 2 – 15 mph
  • PAS 3 – 20 mph
  • PAS 4 – 25 mph
  • PAS 5 – 37 mph (30mph in single motor mode)

3 – Shimano 7 Speed Pedal Driveline

The Movcan V30Pro MAX comes equipped with a basic Shimano Tourney 7-speed transmission. Tourney is Shimano’s lowest-end component set. It’s common on sub $500 big box store bicycles. It’s another indicator that this bike is not designed to be pedaled.

The pedal driveline spins out before you get to 15 mph. Above 15 mph the pedal cadence in high gear gets too fast. Above that, you can freewheel the pedals but that’s it. You can use the pedals to activate the motor and keep it going just to give your legs a break from staying in one position. That is about all the pedals on this bike are meant for.

7 – Tested throttle range over 50 miles with a big rider and hills (10/10)

Movcan claims a 70 to 75 mile range using throttle only under ideal conditions, which is flat land and lower speeds. We were able to get 52 miles out of it using throttle riding on a route with hills and a heavier rider. Riding speed was 15-20mph for the entire ride. We threw some off-roading in too. I can see 70 miles as possible if you go 10 mph and don’t go up any hills. 50-60 miles is a more realistic range for most people.

The published pedal assist range is 115-120 miles. I don’t see anyone riding this bike any distance at all under pure pedal assist. It just isn’t comfortable to ride pedaling with the fixed seat and riding position.

Based on other bikes we have tested with 20 ah batteries it might be doable. A 20 ah battery will usually go 50 to 60 miles with pedal assist and this bike has 2 of them.

9 – Power and Hill Climbing (10/10)

We expected the V30 Pro Max to be fast on our hill climbing test and were not disappointed. We do the test on a 1/2 mile hill with some 10% grades and a rough surface in spots. We use a 250 lb rider.

I set the bike in dual motor mode and level 5 for this test. I recorded a time of 1 minute and 40 seconds. This was inline with the other dual motor ebikes we have tested in the past. The V30 Pro Max loses a few seconds since you can’t give it full throttle right away without spinning the front tire.

I also did the test once using a single motor to see how it compared to other more conventional fat tire ebikes. With 1 motor the bike took 1 minute and 57 seconds.

This confirms that the V30 Pro Max motors are similar to the 750 watt motors that most standard Class 1/2/3 fat tire ebikes come with. The climbing time was very close to what we see with those when operating with 1 motor.

11 – Ride and Handling (8/10)

Riding the V30Pro MAX is a unique mix of bicycle and motorcycle. Movcan calls it an electric motorcycle on their website. The long fixed-height seat is comfortable to ride when using the throttle. The ride position is more upright. You can adjust the handlebars forward and backward.

When riding in dual motor mode, it is very easy for the front wheel to break lose and spin if you try to accelerate too fast. This happened when I sat as far forward as I could on the seat cushion. You have to get the bike moving a bit and then lay into the throttle.

The suspension has enough travel to smooth out our cracks in the pavement and potholes. It does a good job of smoothing out dirt roads. You will get a good clunk on a bigger bump when the rear suspension bottoms out.

The bike is nimble and can turn in tight spaces. The throttle is proportional enough that the bike is easy to control when riding slow. The dual crown fork still allows a very tight turning radius. The bike corners well up to 30mph.

I’m about 5’11’ in height. I can easily step over the bike. My feet fit okay on the pedals for throttle riding. My leg that is more up on the pedals feels a little cramped after riding a couple of hours. If you’re riding for a long time, move your legs around on the pedals every now and then or spin the pedals to keep the bike from getting uncomfortable.

13 – Offroad Riding

I took the V30 Pro Max to some dirt road and jeep trail style terrain where there isn’t any posted rules regarding ebike usage. Dirt roads are where this bike loves to go.

The bike is very zippy feeling and loves blasting around. Acceleration is very strong with dual motors active. You have to be gentle on the throttle to avoid spinning the front wheel from a stop on loose surfaces.

The suspension fork does a good job of absorbing this type of terrain. The rear end did bottom out often. The seat is nice and cushy so it isn’t that noticeable except for the clunk noise you hear when it happens. I never felt the front feel like it bottomed out. There is no pre-load adjustment either for the front or rear shock for heavier riders.

Traction is very good with the 4 inch wide tires. The front wheel has a lot of power and not a lot of weight under it. You do have to be careful on loose surfaces. If you give a lot of throttle while turning the front wheel will break loose on you. On very steep climbs, it is hard to get enough weight onto the front wheel to keep it gripping under hard throttle.

13 – Braking (9/10)

When it comes to slowing down this 100+ pound speed machine, the Movcan V30Pro MAX is equipped with hydraulic disc brakes on both wheels

I thought the brakes had enough power to stop the bike from higher speed. I didn’t find I was locking up the wheels unless I really tried. I never felt like I didn’t have the stopping power I needed to stop my 250 lb self and the bike.

14 – Controls (9/10)

The cockpit of the V30Pro MAX will feel familiar to anyone who’s ridden an ebike or a motorcycle/scooter. It’s got a central LCD display and an array of buttons/switches for various functions.

  • LCD Display: Mounted in the center of the handlebars, this backlit display shows your current speed, battery charge level, assist level, and trip info (odometer, etc.). It’s easy to read even in sunlight. Ours also showed which motor mode we were in. The display also has a USB charging port on the side, allowing you to plug in your phone.
  • On/Off and Assist Buttons: Near the left hand, there’s a button pad that lets you turn the bike on and cycle through pedal assist levels. These buttons also often double for controlling the display settings or toggling units, etc.
  • Throttle: On the right handlebar is a half-twist throttle. As with any twist throttle, holding it wide open for a long time can give your wrist a workout. The bike has cruise control which takes care of that problem.
  • Motor Mode Switch: There is a dedicated switch to activate the front motor. It’s great for on-the-fly changes. Climbing a hill? Flip it on. Cruising on flat? You can turn off the front motor to conserve battery.
  • Lights and Turn Signals: The V30Pro MAX comes with integrated front and rear lights plus turn signals. There is dedicated buttons for both. The bike also has a running light on the headlight that stays on all the time.

Overall, the controls are intuitive and well-thought-out. If you can use a basic bike, you’ll pick it up fast.

15 – Accessories

Movcan didn’t skimp on the out-of-the-box accessories. The V30Pro MAX is comes loaded. Here’s what you get included with the bike:

  • Front Headlight: A large, round LED headlight is mounted front and center. It has a cool retro look (cage-style grille) and is very bright. Great for night rides. It’s wired into the main battery, so there are no separate batteries to worry about.
  • Rear Light with Turn Signals: At the back, there’s an integrated taillight that functions as running light, brake light, and turn signals. Hitting the brakes makes it shine brighter, and using the turn switch makes the left or right signal blink.
  • Horn: An electric horn is built in. It is loud. Much more attention-grabbing than a bell if you need to alert a car.
  • Fenders: The bike comes with front and rear fenders. They do a good job keeping mud and water splashes off you.
  • Rear Passenger Footpegs: There are small folding footpegs attached to the lower frame, intended for a passenger’s feet. I found that I was hitting my heel into them when pedalling. If you aren’t ever going to ride with a rear passenger, I recommend leaving them off the bike.
  • Hand Pump, Lock, Phone Holder, and Spare Tube: The bike comes with some misc accessories you might find useful. The phone holder works well and stays in place on the handlebar. I like the snap lock mechanism. I’m not sure I would trust the cable lock for leaving the bike any length of time unattended. The hand pump comes in handy while setting up the bike. They also threw in a spare tube in case you get a flat.
  • 2 Battery Chargers: Of course, you get a charger. In this case, you get two chargers. One for each battery. Both batteries use the same charge connector. Any bike coming with 2 batteries should come with 2 chargers. A 6 hour charge time is great but it turns into 12 hours if you need to do it twice to ride the bike.

16 – Size and Fit

The Movcan V30Pro MAX is a heavy bike at 109 lbs but it’s not a really large size bike. The seat height is fixed at 32 inches off the ground. I am 5’11” and I fit the bike okay. I feel that the seat is too low to be comfortable pedaling. I can easily step over the bike and stand over it but don’t have a lot of extra room.

Movcan publishes a size range of 5’6″ to 6’6″. I think a more reasonable size range is 5’8″ to 6’2″. My 6’6″ friend tried to ride the bike and was able to but his legs were really squished up. A rider much smaller than me will have a hard time stepping over it.

17 – Assembly Ease (7/10)

The bike took me about an hour and a half to go from box to ready to ride.

The bike comes with a small tool kit. It does not have enough tools to complete the bike. The provided Allen wrenches don’t fit the display mount. There was not a wrench that fit the front wheel axle nuts.

The front motor cable connector can be inserted in more than 1 orientation. There are some arrows on the connectors to indicate the correct way to insert it. They aren’t big or obvious. The bike will operate with the front motor connector put together wrong. You won’t get any errors on the display. The front wheel just won’t spin or have any power. The back wheel will still power the bike like normal.

I recommend inflating the front and rear wheels before assembling the bike. Set the bike upside down so that you can easily watch the tire beads to make sure they seat. I did my normal process which is assemble the bike and then roll it next to my car to use a 12 volt pump. The beads on both tires didn’t seat into the rim. I had to deflate them both, flip the bike over, then deflate and try again.

The other issue with the bike is the handlebar attachment. You cannot get the stem-to-handlebar connection tight enough with the provided wrenches. While doing the range test, I rode the bike downhill at speed over a sidewalk transition that gave the bike a good hit. The front handlebar rotated back several inches. I didn’t lose control and was able to stop the bike. A bigger hit or more speed could have ended real bad. Make sure these 4 bolts are very tight.

Recommendation – Buy or No Buy?

If you’re seeking moped style ebike with high power performance, long range, and great value, the Movcan V30Pro MAX is a good choice. It’s high top speed and acceleration make it stand out. It is a very heavy bike and it is not comfortable to pedal which are it’s main drawbacks. For urban adventures, thrilling commutes, and weekend explorations, the V30Pro MAX is a winner.

Buy it if:

  • You want power and long range above all. This bike delivers on performance – few ebikes under $2k can touch its dual-motor power and long range.
  • Long range is important to you. With dual batteries, the V30Pro MAX outlasts most competitors in its class. Great for long rides, heavy commuters, or anyone with range anxiety.
  • You’re basically seeking a street-legal electric moped. It has the lights, horn, signals, and even passenger pegs to behave like a moped. For someone considering a scooter or a Super73, this offers similar utility at a fraction of the cost.
  • Value is a priority. You’re getting features (full suspension, hydraulic brakes, etc.) that often come on bikes twice the price. It’s hard to find another $1,500 ebike that checks all these boxes.
  • You don’t mind a heavy bike and mostly plan to use throttle/assist. This isn’t a lightweight pedal bike – it’s a mini electric motorbike. If that concept appeals to you, you’ll likely love it.

Don’t buy it if:

  • You need to lift/carry the bike often or have limited storage. The weight and bulk make it impractical for upstairs apartments or tight spaces. It’s too heavy for most car hitch bike racks.
  • You prefer a bicycle-like experience. If you want to pedal a lot for fitness or you value nimble handling, a lighter single-motor ebike (or one with a torque sensor) might suit you better. The V30Pro MAX is overkill for casual cyclists who just want a gentle boost.
  • Ebike legality concerns you. This bike is not a class 1, 2 or 3 ebike from the dual motor power. It has a throttle that goes way above 20mph out of the box. You may be required to register and insure this bike depending on where you live.
